Is Schizophrenia A Serious Mental Disease - 1794 Words

Research show that Schizophrenia is a very serious mental disease which 1.2% of the American population is affected by. There is not evidence on what causes this very chronic disease but researchers believe that a combination of genetics and environment contributes to development of the disorder. This is a disease that is said to begin in early adulthood, which is between 15 to age 25. Research shows that males become ill in their early teens to early adulthood. Men tend to get develop schizophrenia slightly earlier than women. Most males become ill at age 16 or 25 most females develop symptoms several years later. This disease is noticeably higher in women after age 30. Schizophrenia is quite possible the most dreaded psychological disorder there is. It is also one of the most heavily researched. Statistics show that children who parents have this have a 1.8 percent of getting schizophrenia. (â€Å"Schizophrenia facts and statistics,† n.d.) Schizophrenic behavior are more expressing during their â€Å"break† which means they have the outward symptoms that are noticed by family members and others which include not being able to take care of one’s self, patterns such as eating or sleep tend to change, having little to no energy cause headaches, and confused, strange, or bizarre thinking that gets expressed as bizarre behavior. Research show that a break happens way before friends or family noticed something is wrong with their loved one.
